Man Faces Multiple Charges After Shots Fired in Home in Gloucester County

Kevin D. Vaughn (Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office)

GLOUCESTER COUNTY — The Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office announced a man was arrested Saturday after shots were fired in a home in the 2300 block of Jacqueline Drive in Hayes.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, on Sept. 27, at approximately 9:22 a.m., deputies responded to a third-party call that there appeared to be bullet holes in the window of a townhouse and a vehicle in front of the townhouse appeared to have had it’s window shot out.

Deputies spoke with neighbors and attempted to check the welfare of the occupants of the townhouse, however, initial efforts were unsuccessful, according to officials. Additionally, deputies noted it appeared the gunshots originated from inside the townhouse and penetrated outward toward the parking area.

The sheriff’s office said deputies then made a second approach to establish contact and check the welfare of any occupants and were met at the door by the male occupant, later identified as Kevin Don Vaughn, who was detained without incident.

A female adult family member of Vaughn’s was also located inside the townhouse and was later taken to Riverside Walter Reed Hospital for evaluation, officials said.

A search warrant was obtained for the townhouse, and deputies and investigators canvassed the surrounding area for evidence. Based on the results of the scene search, witness statements and other evidence recovered, Vaughn was arrested and transported to the Gloucester County Jail, according to officials

Vaughn has been charged with 14 felony counts of discharging firearms or missiles within or at a building or dwelling house; three misdemeanor counts of reckless handling of firearms; and a felony count of injuring, etc., any property, monument >$1,000.

Vaughn was denied bond and is being held in the Northern Neck Regional Jail pending his first court appearance. The case remains under active investigation and additional charges may be forthcoming.
