NORFOLK — An arraignment was held on Naval Station Norfolk Thursday for a sailor assigned to Naval Weapons Station Yorktown who is charged in the death of another sailor during a boating incident on the York River last April.
Master-at-Arms Second Class Petty Officer Jackson Bower has been charged in connection with the death of Master-at-Arms Third Class Lyndon Joel Cosgriff-Flax, who was killed during a boating incident on the York River involving one of the installation’s harbor security boats.
According to Navy Region Mid-Atlantic Public Affairs, on April 28, 2024, a harbor security boat team assigned to Naval Weapons Station Yorktown was conducting security boat training and familiarization when the 22-year-old Cosgriff-Flax accidentally fell overboard, resulting in fatal injuries.
Public Affairs said that last week the Convening Authority referred charges for Bower, who is charged with negligent homicide in the death of Cosgriff-Flax, making a false official statement, and two counts of dereliction of duty.
A General Court Martial date has not been set.
