NEWPORT NEWS — A multi-vehicle crash involving a jackknifed tractor-trailer blocked all westbound lanes on Interstate 64 at 250mm/Fort Eustis Boulevard Monday morning.
According to Virginia State Police, the crash with injuries occurred at approximately 5:45 a.m. Preliminary investigations revealed that a 2015 Dodge Ram and a 2008 Ford Escape had both slowed down significantly due to traffic when the driver of a 2005 International Tractor, Brian Bootes, of Middlesex, New York, was unable to slow down and struck the Dodge Ram in the rear and then struck the Ford Escape.
The driver of the Ford Escape was transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Bootes was cited for following too closely. Speed and alcohol were not factors, according to police.
The Virginia Department of Transportation rerouted and detoured traffic at Jefferson Avenue, police said.
