Juvenile Charged After Shots Fired into Home Wound James City County Man

JAMES CITY COUNTY — A 14-year-old male has been charged in connection to Wednesday’s shooting in the 200 block of Tarleton Bivouac in James City County that left a man in critical condition.

According to officials, James City County Police responded to a report of a gunshot victim inside a residence in the 200 block of Tarleton Bivouac at 7:41 p.m. on March 5. Upon arrival, officers found a 20-year-old male resident suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The victim was transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center, where he remains in the Intensive Care Unit in stable but critical condition, according to police.

Preliminary findings indicated that multiple rounds were fired into an occupied residence, striking the adult male, according to James City County. At the time of the shooting, seven individuals — including two children — were inside the home. More than two dozen shell casings were recovered, and the Department’s Criminal Investigations Unit is continuing its investigation.

Based on the evidence gathered so far, detectives have charged a 14-year-old male resident of James City County with one count of each of the following offenses:

  • Malicious Wounding
  • Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony
  • Reckless Handling of a Firearm
  • Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling
  • Juvenile in Possession of a Firearm

The juvenile has been transported to Merrimac Detention Center.
