YORKTOWN — York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office (YPSO) is asking the public for information that will help the department identify individuals who vandalized the Freight Shed in Riverwalk Landing, 331 Water St., between 10 p.m. on April 13 and 8 a.m. on April 14.
According to a post on the YPSO Facebook page, the inside of the building, along with the HVAC system, sustained extensive damage. Investigators said that one of the facility’s fire extinguishers was used to vandalize the property and was then stolen.
The Freight Shed was first built in 1935 by the National Park Service as a terminal for Baltimore steamships. Starting in 1952 the structure housed a U.S. Post Office. Since a massive restoration project in 2005 the Freight Shed has been the site for functions including weddings, reunions, parties, banquets, concerts, and business meetings and lectures.
Anyone who can identify any of the individuals caught on the building’s security cameras or anyone with any information on the incident, is encouraged to call the Crime Line at (888) LOCK-U-UP or the YPSO Tip Line at (757) 890-4999 and reference #2001535.
