REGIONAL — The National Weather Service in Wakefield, Va. (NWS Wakefield) has issued a severe weather alert for Saturday, August 6.
A warm front will be moving across the region, causing the possibility for severe weather. NWS Wakefield states that there will be heavy rainfall with 1-3 in. of rain, with local amounts being as high as 5 in. As a result, there are concerns regarding flash flooding, particularly east of Interstate 95 (I-95).
A flash flood watch is in effect for all of southeast Virginia and northeast North Carolina.
Localized thunderstorms are expected to occur in the afternoon. Additionally, there could be damaging wind gusts as well as tornadoes.
