
VIRGINIA PENINSULA — The National Weather Service (NWS) in Wakefield, Va. has issued a flash flood watch for the local region.
This watch is in effect from Thursday afternoon through late Thursday night.
Tropical Storm Elsa is supposed to move into the Hampton Roads region Thursday afternoon through the night. NWS Wakefield expects that the local region will receive 2-3 inches of rainfall, with 5 inches possible in some areas.
Areas that receive excessive amounts of rainfall, to include low-lying areas, places with poor drainage, and those that are normally prone to flooding should stake precautionary measures.
Areas in the Historic Triangle that are included in the watch are: Gloucester County, City of Hampton, City of Poquoson, Isle of Wight County, James City County, Mathews County, City of Newport News, and York County.
