The City of Williamsburg will hold a public meeting July 28 to discuss the next phase of the College Woods Circuit, a proposed shared-use path connecting Berkeley Middle School to Berkeley Lane along Strawberry Plains Road and John Tyler Lane.
The meeting is scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, in the community room at the Williamsburg Police Station, 615 Lafayette St.
City staff and representatives from design firm Timmons Group will present updated designs for the project and answer questions from residents. The designs are about 60% complete, according to a news release from the city.
The second phase is part of a larger trail project that would extend the Virginia Capital Trail around College Woods and connect to the proposed Trail757 at South Boundary Street.
The first phase, the Monticello Avenue Multiuse Trail, opened in 2020. The second phase, from Berkeley Middle School to Berkeley Lane, is being designed. A third phase along Jamestown Road from John Tyler Lane to South Boundary Street remains is in the planning stages.
The city has considered a shared-use trail along Strawberry Plains Road since 2017. In 2021, the city collected public feedback on designs and later applied for state funding to help pay for the project.
The city received $2.36 million in Transportation Alternatives Program funding for the project last year. The estimated cost of the second phase is $3.23 million.
