Colonial Williamsburg is hosting a live theatrical performance called “The Flame of Revolution: 5th VA Convention” at 8:30 p.m. on May 15 and 16. The free performance will commemorate the events leading up to and during the Fifth Virginia Convention in May of 1776, which culminated in the unanimous vote that supported independence from Great Britain. Katharine Pittman, who portrays Nation Builder Martha Washington and also serves as creative lead for the Department of Performing Arts at Colonial Williamsburg, spoke with 92.3 FM The Tide about the two performances, how to attend, the historical interpreters who will be included, and the historical context and impacts of the Fifth Virginia Convention.
