JAMES CITY— The James City County Police Department, in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), will participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
The event will take place at the Law Enforcement Center.
This free, anonymous initiative provides community members with a safe and responsible way to dispose of old, unwanted, or expired medications. Proper disposal helps prevent prescription drug misuse, accidental poisonings, and environmental harm. Unused medications stored in the home are particularly vulnerable to diversion and misuse, often by individuals who obtain them from family or friends.
Accepted items include tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid prescription medications. Items not accepted include syringes, sharps, illicit drugs, and leaking or unsealed liquids. Liquid medications must remain sealed in their original containers.
JCCPD says the program began 16 years ago, and National Prescription Drug Take Back Day has removed more than 20.3 million pounds of medication from circulation through partnerships with local law enforcement agencies across the country.
