William & Mary Tribe Men’s Basketball Celebrates Senior Night with Third Straight Win

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — William & Mary men’s basketball celebrated Senior Night with a 94-85 victory over Hampton to cap the regular season on Tuesday night at Kaplan Arena. 

The Tribe (19-11, 10-8 CAA) shot 58.3% from the field, its best mark in CAA play, while connecting on 32-of-40 at the free throw line. It marked the third time this season, W&M hit more than 30 free throws, showcasing its proficiency at the line. The Green and Gold won its 19th game of the season, marking just the ninth time in school history that it won 19 or more games during the regular season. 

Senior Chase Lowe was perfect from the field, scoring 15 points on six attempts and grabbing five rebounds. Junior Tunde Vahlberg Fasasi led the team with 17 points, sinking all seven free throws and adding seven rebounds and four assists. Junior Kilian Brockhoff matched that with 17 points to go with four rebounds, three assists, and two blocks. Junior Reese Miller’s 13 points and three assists were highlighted by reaching the 1,000-point milestone in his career.

The Green and Gold shot an impressive 62.5% from the field, outpacing HU’s 43.8%, in the opening 20 minutes. W&M used a 18-4 run to flip a four-point deficit into a 10-point lead just under nine minutes into the contest. Vahlberg Fasasi tallied seven points during the run, while Miller added five. A Brockhoff lay-up gave the Tribe a 23-13, and the Green and Gold led by double-digits for the majority the first frame, including 51-41 at the break. 

The Tribe’s advantage reached as much as 16 just 1:27 into the final period. W&M scored the opening six points of the second half and another Brockhoff bucket pushed the lead to 57-41. 

The Green and Gold lead remained doubles-digits until a 9-1 Hampton run sliced the margin to two. An Etienne Strothers fast-break lay-up closed the gap to 75-73 and forced a Tribe timeout with 8:10 remaining. 

Ryan Jackson, Jr. tipped in his own miss and Vahlberg Fasasi added a lay-up on the ensuing possession to stretch the lead back to six. A pair of Vahlberg Fasasi free throws at the 3:23 mark extended the lead to nine, 86-77, for what proved to the final margin. 

Daniel Johnson paced Hampton with 23 points, hitting 7-of-14 from the field, including four 3-pointers, and added three steals. Josh Ogundele contributed 21 points with efficient 9-of-11 shooting and five rebounds. Xzavier Long added 13 points and recorded eight rebounds and two steals. 

Hampton shot 40.6% (26-of-64) from the field, but was just 12-of-32 (37.5%) in the second and only 9-of-34 (26.5%) from 3-point range in the game. The Pirates connected on 24-of-30 (80%) at the free throw line. 

W&M outrebounded Hampton, 39-26, and outscored the Pirates, 40-34, in the paint. Senior Kyle Pulliam made it five Tribe players in double figures for the second-straight game with 10 points to go with four rebounds and three assists. Senior Finn Lally tallied nine rebounds and added two rebounds in his first start, while graduate student Jhei-R Jones finished with seven points.
