WJCC High School Teachers Recognized for Financial Literacy Teaching Excellence

WILLIAMSBURG/JAMES CITY COUNTY — Williamsburg-James City County Schools announced teachers at all three high schools and the divisions’ Virtual Learning Program were recognized for extraordinary results with student achievement in the Working in Support of Education Financial Literacy Certification Test.

High school students at WJCC Schools take the W!se Financial Literacy Certification Test after a personal finance course, according to the division. Students who pass demonstrate knowledge in personal finance topics like budgeting, credit, investing and saving. To earn distinction, teachers must have at least one class in which 93% of students pass the W!SE Financial Literacy Certification Exam.

Lafayette High School Named 2025 Level Up Virginia Champion

The division also announced Lafayette High School was named a 2025 Level Up Virginia Champion, one of only 28 high schools across the commonwealth to earn this distinction.

According to WJCC Schools, Level Up Virginia is a statewide initiative led by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia and Virginia Department of Education to promote equity and access in postsecondary education by increasing readiness, enrollment and completion for all students.

Lafayette High School counselors Erica Gibson and Brennan Ziegler led school efforts to organize and implement four major Level Up events, helping all Lafayette students plan for their futures, explore college options and take concrete steps toward achieving their goals, the division said.
