EDITOR’S NOTE — Veteran Voices is an annual week-long series introducing WYDaily readers to some of our local veterans. Each story represents a different person in the Historic Triangle communities and shares their stories of service.

YORK COUNTY — Dr. Michael Pettinelli, a local psychologist and licensed clinical social worker, is getting ready to launch his newest venture: The Resilient Force Project.
The Resilient Force Project is an incubator for growth, as Pettinelli describes it. It helps individuals and communities learn to thrive, not just survive, through adversity. The project is built around six pillars of authentic resilience and aims to create spaces where people can rediscover strength, purpose, and connection before, during and after life’s challenges.
Pettinelli, a U.S. Air Force veteran with over 17 years of experience working with veterans, military members, and their families in both governmental and private settings, sees the mental health struggles in service members each day. He has made it his mission with The Resilient Force Project to change that.
The organization’s current focus is on direct, one-on-one support for veterans, first responders, and leaders who feel overwhelmed with life, seeking renewed purpose, balance and resilience.
“There’s light at the end of the tunnel. You are not alone. The Resilient Force Project exists to remind people that growth comes from reflection, connection, and courage, and that adversity is the proving ground for a stronger, more meaningful life,” Pettinelli explained.
Pettinelli aims to normalize the conversation around struggle and reframe how people can proactively prepare for and work through adversity and harness the strength of the human spirit to transform challenge into growth and thrive in life and community.
“There’s more right with you than wrong with you. Most of us just need a way to reconnect with that truth,” Pettinelli said.
The Resilient Force Project will use a combination of evidence-based modalities in both traditional and non-traditional settings to address the six pillars of resilience through a person-centered framework that adapts to each client’s goals.
“We aim to inspire people and organizations to meet adversity with purpose and courage, transforming challenges into opportunities for growth and meaning in every part of life,” Pettinelli said.
Overall, through his new project, Pettinelli hopes to help those who have stepped up to serve
“Resilience isn’t just about bouncing back from hardship, it’s about preparing to face adversity in healthy ways, learning from past challenges, identifying barriers that hold you back, and integrating those lessons to become a more complete, grounded version of yourself. My mission is simple: to remind people that there’s hope, that struggle is normal, and that we can rise from it stronger than before. I’ve seen amazing things happen when this is implemented,” Pettinelli said.
