EASTON, Pa. — Lafayette’s Alex Chaikin was named the Patriot League Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week for the second time this season when the conference office announced honors on Monday afternoon.

The Williamsburg native averaged 19.5 points against Patriot League foes American and Bucknell this past week.

Chaikin improved his career high to 23 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the floor and a quad of 3-pointers against the Bison on Feb. 15. He also netted a team-leading 7-of-11 from the charity stripe.

At American on Feb. 10, Chaikin totaled 16 points, four rebounds and two assists.

He currently leads the Leopards with 12.5 ppg through 27 contests, 15 of which he has been a starter.

Chaikin attended Trinity Episcopal, averaging 22 points, six rebounds and two assists per game. He was named an All-Prep League Team, a VISSA Division 1 All-State and an 804 All-Star Game selection and set both the school’s single-season record for 3-pointers made (108) and the career record for shots from beyond the arc (231) as the eighth all-time leading scorer. He also played club basketball for Virginia Premier under coach Corey Stitzel.

The Leopards travel to Holy Cross on Wednesday with tip-off slated for 6 p.m.
