Velocity Urgent Care Rebranding to Sentara Urgent Care

(Sentara Health)

HAMPTON ROADS — Sentara Health announced this week that 18 Velocity Urgent Care Centers in Virginia will be re-branded as Sentara Urgent Care on Feb. 3.

Sentara said the branding change has been in the works since it assumed full ownership of Velocity in December of 2023. The adoption of Sentara’s Epic electronic medical record (EMR) took place in August, it added, and the transition to Sentara signage is underway.

“This branding process brings us full circle back to Sentara,” said Kurt Hofelich, Vice President of Ambulatory Services for Sentara Health. “We’re glad to have Sentara Urgent Care back in the family.”

Sentara noted it entered its five Hampton Roads-based urgent care centers into a partnership with Velocity Urgent Care in 2017, and the agreement was for Velocity to grow and improve the service line. It grew the chain into 18 centers throughout Virginia. Another will soon open in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.

Sentara Urgent Care offers an alternative to emergency departments for minor injuries and illnesses. More than 200 Velocity professionals are now employees of Sentara Health. Sentara Urgent Care will continue to provide immediate care for illnesses and injuries as well as physicals, vaccinations, X-rays, referrals and basic lab tests, it said.

“Sentara Urgent Care will provide our patients with a seamless connection to Sentara’s Epic EMR,” said Barbara Smith, Vice President of Operations for Sentara Urgent Care. “Being part of Sentara promotes patient safety and continuity of care,’ she added. “Sentara is one of the most respected names in health care and we’re happy to be a part of it.”

After the transition, velocityuc.com will redirect to Sentara.com/urgentcare. The option ‘click and reserve your spot,’ allows patients to schedule their check-in with Sentara Urgent Care online.

The transition includes locations in Lightfoot and New Town.
