WILLIAMSBURG — The Virginia Racial Healing Institute on Friday announced a “generous contribution” from Sentara Health to support the sixth annual Greater Williamsburg National Day of Racial Healing on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
The theme for this year’s event is “Healing Through the Arts,” and will feature a special dance presentation by Leah Glenn Dance Theater, which was inspired by the late Nikki Giovanni. The event will be held at Legacy Hall, 4301 New Town Ave.
The event is organized by Coming to the Table — Historic Triangle, a program of Virginia Racial Healing Institute that is affiliated with Coming to the Table, a national racial reconciliation organization, according to the nonprofit.
Sentara Health is serving as this year’s sponsor for the third consecutive year.
In addition to a modern dance performance, the ceremony will include food, music, a candlelight service, and the presentation of the third annual Table Builders Awards which recognizes outstanding people and organizations that are working to bridge racial divides.
“We are honored to have the continued support of Sentara Health. Their generous contribution reinforces their commitment to creating welcoming and healthy communities.” said Laura Hill, Executive Director of Virginia Racial Healing Institute.
According to the Kellogg Foundation, it established the National Day of Racial Healing “to bring people and communities nationwide together to contemplate our shared values and create the blueprint together for “How We Heal” from the effects of racism,” adding it is “an opportunity to bring all people together in their common humanity and inspire collective action to create a more just and equitable world.”
The event is free, but registration is required. As of Friday morning, all seats are reserved. Those still interested in attending can email CTTT.historictriangle@
