HISTORIC TRIANGLE — Thanksgiving is Thursday, Nov. 28. Here is how local offices and services are impacted by the holiday.
James City County
James City County offices, facilities, services, libraries and courts will observe the following schedule for the Thanksgiving holiday, according to the county:
County Offices:
Closed Nov. 28 and 29.
James City County Recreation Center and Abram Frink Jr. Community Center:
Closed Nov. 28.
Parks:
All County parks are open year-round.
Park Stores and Guest Services Offices:
Closed Nov. 28 and 29.
Tewning Road, Jolly Pond Road and Toano Convenience Centers:
Closed Nov. 28.
Garbage Transfer Station:
Closed Nov. 28.
Curbside Recycling:
One day delay beginning with Thursday. Thursday’s recycling will be picked up on Friday and Friday’s recycling will be picked up on Saturday.
Libraries:
Closing at 5 p.m., Nov. 27 and closed Nov. 28 and 29.
Courts:
Closing at noon, Nov. 27 and closed Nov. 28 and 29.
Williamsburg
In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, City of Williamsburg offices will be closed Thursday, Nov. 28 and Friday, Nov. 29,the city said. This includes the offices in the Municipal Building on Lafayette Street and Quarterpath Recreation Center.
Waller Mill Park is closed on Thursday, Nov. 28. It follows normal operating hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., on Friday, Nov. 29.
The holiday does not affect trash or recycling collection in the city. It is a Blue Route Week for Residential Curbside Leaf Collection. The leaf collection will not occur on Thursday, Nov. 28 and Friday, Nov. 29. To check whether your home receives leaf collection services and on which route, look up your address at williamsburgva.gov/leafcollection.

Those who need to pay a city bill when offices are closed are encouraged to use the 24-hour bill payment drop box located at the front of the Municipal Building, 401 Lafayette St. for city transactions. Payments can also be made online. The city emphasized drop box payments made on Thursday, Nov. 28 and Friday, Nov. 29 will not be posted until Monday, Dec. 2.
It also reminds residents that real estate and personal property tax bills for the period July 1-Dec. 31, 2024, are due Dec. 1.
York County
York County said government offices and courts will observe the following schedule for the Thanksgiving holiday:

Garbage and recycling will not be picked up on Thanksgiving Day, the county said. Collections will be delayed one day, with Thursday collections moved to Friday, and Friday’s to Saturday.
Additionally, the VPPSA Composting Facility and drop-off centers for garbage and recycling will be closed on Thursday, but open Friday. The Transfer Station remains closed for repairs, and the citizen drop-off for garbage will close at noon on Saturday, Nov. 30.
