KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. — A 20-year-old Williamsburg woman died after trying to run across U.S. 158 in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, early Friday when she was struck by a vehicle.

According to a report at SamWalkerOBXNews.com, the collision happened on South Croatan Highway near Ocean Acres Drive around 1:08 a.m., according to the Kill Devil Hills Police Department.

Investigators said 20-year-old Ashley Elizabeth Williams of Williamsburg ran into the path of a 2021 Jeep Wrangler traveling south in the outside lane and driven by a Kill Devil Hills resident.

Williams was struck by the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation further determined that neither speed nor alcohol was a factor for the driver, and no charges were filed.

“The Kill Devil Hills Police Department extends our condolences to the Williams family,” said KDH Police Chief Gary L. Britt in a statement. “We thank the Kill Devil Hills Fire Department, Dare County EMS, the Nags Head Police Department, and the Dare County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and telecommunicators for their assistance.”
