Memorial Day Closures Around the Historic Triangle

HISTORIC TRIANGLE — Memorial Day is observed Monday, May 27, marking the unofficial start to summer across the region. Here is how local offices and services are impacted by the federal holiday.

James City County

According to James City County, offices, facilities, services, libraries and courts will observe the following schedule for Memorial Day:

County Offices:
Closed May 27.

James City County Recreation Center and Abram Frink Jr. Community Center:
Closed May 27.

Parks:
All County parks are open year-round.

Park Stores and Guest Services Offices:
Open May 27.

Tewning Road, Jolly Pond Road and Toano Convenience Centers:
Closed May 27.

Garbage Transfer Station:
Closed May 27.

Curbside Recycling:
One day delay beginning with Monday. Monday’s recycling will be picked up on Tuesday, Tuesday’s will be picked up on Wednesday, etc.

Libraries:
Closed May 26-27.

Courts:
Closed May 27.

City of Williamsburg

The City of Williamsburg said offices will be closed Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day. This includes all offices in the Municipal Building on Lafayette Street and Quarterpath Recreation Center.

Waller Mill Park will follow normal operating hours, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Garbage will be collected on its regular schedule Monday, May 27 and Tuesday, May 28. Recycling collection will be delayed by one day; Monday’s recycling will be picked up on Tuesday, and Tuesday’s recycling will be picked up on Wednesday.

Those who need to pay a city bill when offices are closed are encouraged to use the 24-hour bill payment dropbox located at the front of the Municipal Building, 401 Lafayette St. for city transactions. Payments can also be made online. The city notes dropbox payments made on Monday, May 27, will not be posted until Tuesday, May 28.

York County

According to York County, the following courts and offices are closed in observance of Memorial Day on Monday, May 27:

  • York County Offices and Courts  — Closed
  • Virginia Cooperative Extension Service  — Closed
  • York-Poquoson Social Services  — Closed
  • York County Public Libraries  — Closed
  • Waste Management Administrative Office  — Closed

Memorial Day Garbage/Recycling Collection Schedule

  • Curbside garbage collections are not affected by the Memorial Day holiday.  Residents are reminded to have their garbage containers at the roadside by 7 a.m.
  • Curbside recycling will not be collected. Recycling collections are delayed one day until all routes are completed on Saturday.
  • The Waste Management Facility including Citizen Drop Off, Recycling Center, and VPPSA Compost Facility are closed on Memorial Day.
