WILLIAMSBURG — The William & Mary football team will kick off its 2024 slate two days sooner than originally scheduled, as it will host VMI at Zable Stadium on Thursday, Aug. 29.
The exciting in-state matchup will mark the Tribe’s first Thursday night home opener since 2007 when it hosted Delaware for the inaugural CAA game.
This season’s opener will renew a historic rivalry that was played every year from 1944 through 2008 – a stretch of 65 consecutive seasons. At the time it was interrupted, it was tied for the ninth-longest uninterrupted FCS series.
This season’s matchup will be the first of a four-game series that will also feature contests in 2027, 2030 and 2031. In addition to this year’s game, W&M will host the Keydets in 2030 (Aug. 31), while it will travel to Lexington in 2027 (Sept. 4) and 2031 (Aug. 30).
In a series that dates back to 1905, W&M owns a 53-33-2 all-time record versus the Keydets and has won the last 25 meetings. The most recent matchup came in 2011 when the Tribe earned a 24-7 victory at Foster Stadium.
