YORK COUNTY — Virginia State Police (VSP) were on the scene of a fiery motor vehicle crash that resulted in two fatalities on Interstate 64 Monday evening.
According to police, the accident occurred at approximately 6:13 p.m. on Jan. 1 on I-64 westbound at mile marker 247/Lee Hall exit ramp. A VSP investigation revealed the driver of a 2016 Ford Econoline U-Haul truck was traveling in the far left lane when it crossed over all lanes of traffic and ran off the roadway. The vehicle then struck a tree and caught fire. Both the driver and a passenger were killed.
Due to the vehicle damage caused by the crash and fire, police said they were unable to identify either the driver or the passenger at that time. VSP announced Wednesday, Jan. 24 that the driver has been identified as 46-year-old Jeremiah Dukes of White Oakes, Pennsylvania, and the passenger as his wife, 44-year-old Amanda Dukes.
The crash remains under investigation.
