
WILLIAMSBURG — Five William & Mary players scored in double figures led by double-doubles from junior Caleb Dorsey and sophomore Trey Moss, and the Tribe led throughout in a 99-50 victory over Virginia University of Lynchburg on Sunday afternoon at Kaplan Arena.
Caleb Dorsey posted career-highs with 20 points and 13 rebounds, while Moss just missed a triple-double with 18 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists. Junior Gabe Dorsey finished with 20 points in 23 minutes, connecting on six 3-pointers.
Sophomores Charlie Williams and Miles Hicks both scored in double figures. Williams turned in a 12-point, eight-rebound, and five-assist stat line, while Hicks had a career-high 10 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.
VUL opened the contest hitting just one of its first seven from the floor. Gabe Dorsey started a quick 7-0 Tribe run with a triple to extend the lead to 9-2 just four minutes into the contest.
The margin reach double-digits for the first time at 19-9 on a pair of Chase Lowe free throws at the 12:27 mark.
An 11-0 W&M run that included a trio of 3-pointers forced a Dragons timeout at the 7:56 mark. Caleb Dorsey scored five during the run, while freshman Jayden Lemond capped it with a wing triple.
W&M (5-6) used a 19-0 run spanning the end of the first half and start of the second to push the lead above 30 points. The Dorsey brothers – Caleb (5) and Gabe (6) – combined for 11 straight, before Trey Moss scored the final three points of the opening half to send W&M to the locker room with a 46-19 lead.
The Tribe scored the first five points out of the intermission behind a Lowe lay-up and a Gabe Dorsey 3-pointer in the opening 50 seconds.
Lemond sparked an 8-0 run to push the lead to 72-30 with 12:47 remaining. He scored six-straight points and then found Moss on an alley-oop for a fast-break dunk. Lemond posted career-highs with nine points and six rebounds.
The lead reached its largest at 99-47 with 58.5 seconds left on a Nick Evans lay-up. Evans scored a career-high six points and added a pair of dunks.
W&M finished the game shooting 52.3% (34-of-64) from the field, hitting 13 3-pointers and connecting on 78.3% (18-of-23) at the free throw line. It marked the third-straight game with double-digit 3-pointers. The Tribe dished out 24 assists on its 34 made field goals and finished with 60 total rebounds for just the fifth time since 1980.
The Tribe limited VUL to just 24.7% (18-of-73) from the field and 6-of-34 (17.6) from 3-point range. Jahmir Brown led the Dragons with 11 points.
