WILLIAMSBURG — After weather conditions forced a postponement Tuesday, the City of Williamsburg announced it will hold its 2024 National Night Out event on Thursday, Oct. 3.

The event takes place from 5-7 p.m. at the Community Building on 401 N. Boundary St.

National Night Out (NNO) is an annual event that promotes police-community partnerships, public engagement, and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods a safer, better place to live, according to the city.

Residents can enjoy free food and entertainment while learning about law enforcement and celebrating Williamsburg Police Department’s recent designation as a certified Crime Prevention Community, it added.

National Night Out will provide residents an opportunity to meet members of several local law enforcement agencies, including the Williamsburg Police Department, the Williamsburg James City County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Police, the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, the Virginia Attorney General’s Office, Colonial Williamsburg Public Safety, the William & Mary Police Department, and the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources, as well as local business vendors.

The City of Williamsburg noted it earned a National Night Out Award for Outstanding Participation after drawing an estimated 500 people to last year’s event.

“The City’s National Night Out Committee puts together a fantastic event for the community year after year,” Community Resource Officer Herb Williams said. “We cannot wait for our neighbors to see what we have planned for this year’s NNO on Oct. 1.”

If necessary, a rain date is slated for Thursday, Oct. 3.
