WILLIAMSBURG— Williamsburg Jamestown Airport celebrated 54 years of operation with a ribbon cutting and a name change to Waltrip Williamsburg Executive Airport on Saturday, Sept. 29.

The facility is one of the few privately owned and publicly used airports in the state of Virginia.

“[The airport] is one of those things that makes James City County such a special place, makes the Williamsburg area so unique,” noted John J. McGlennon, a member of the James City County Board of Supervisors.

Owner Larry Waltrip expressed his gratitude to a number of attendees, his family, and his staff, adding the airport would not be what it is today without his late wife Jean Waltrip, his late brother Dudley S. (Timmy), and his late parents Mary and Dudley C. Waltrip.

After the speeches concluded, a banner was dropped to officially announce Waltrip Williamsburg Executive Airport as the new name for the facility, and following the ribbon cutting, guests enjoyed food and festivities.
