RICHMOND — The Virginia Capital Trail Foundation, in collaboration with its partners, announced a month-long celebration in honor of the eighth birthday of the trail.
The milestone commemorates eight years of fostering outdoor adventures and community engagement along the iconic 52-mile Capital Trail, the foundation said.
The trail runs from Williamsburg to Richmond. To celebrate its impact on the region, the Virginia Capital Trail has partnered with local community groups and businesses to create a diverse calendar of outdoor activities and weekly events throughout October.
Highlights include group rides and hikes led by experienced outdoor enthusiasts, a history walk with The Valentine, an introduction to bikepacking with Journeman’s Adventure Co., a photography class led by renowned photographer Bill Draper, and a camping and cycling excursion at Chickahominy Riverfront Park.
The activities are designed to inspire participants to experience the Capital Trail in new and exciting ways, the foundation said, noting with 51.7 miles of scenic trail to discover, there is plenty of opportunity for exploration and adventure.
“The Virginia Capital Trail is a cherished asset for our local communities and the broader region. We are excited to showcase the Trail’s diverse opportunities, inviting individuals to experience it in unique ways, whether it’s by foot, wheels, or capturing it through a camera lens,” shares Cat Anthony, Executive Director of the Virginia Capital Trail Foundation. “This celebration is about highlighting not only the Capital Trail but our incredible trail community and partners!”
