YORK COUNTY — York County will hold its public ceremony in honor of Memorial Day on Monday, May 29, at the War Memorial.
The memorial is located on the front lawn of York Hall at 301 Main Street in historic Yorktown. The Fifes and Drums of York Town will march to York Hall at approximately 11:45 a.m., and the full program begins at noon.
York County Historical Committee member Tim Smith will be the keynote speaker. A graduate of York High School and the Shenandoah University Conservatory of Music, Smith will speak about the women and men who gave all in defense of our nation, the county said.
Members of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 824, will serve in the Color Guard.
A wreath laying will be conducted by the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 13, the Comte de Grasse Chapter — Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Moore House Society — Children of the American Revolution.
Military service flags will be presented by the York High School NJROTC (Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps), with the National Anthem sung by Senior Master Sgt. Terry Taylor of the U.S. Air Force. The ceremony will include the playing of “Taps.”
In the case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved inside York Hall.
