A ‘Paw-ty’ is Coming to Jamestown Beach Event Park

JAMES CITY COUNTY — Fido Fest, a dog-themed event, will return to Jamestown Beach Event Park Saturday, March 25 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Sponsored by James City County Parks & Recreation and Heritage Humane Society the dog and family-friendly event aims to be a “paw-ty” not to be missed.

“The idea began as a way to partner with the Heritage Humane Society to raise awareness about adoptable dogs and their journey to finding forever homes,” said James City County Parks and Recreation Program Coordinator for Special Events Laurie Williams.

In addition to the many crafts, inflatables, games and amusements available to children and adults, the event also includes activities and fun opportunities that include the family pooch.

“Something new this year will be Sudz and Budz,” Williams said, “It is a giant foam party for the dogs. It is non-toxic foam suds that will be good clean fun for pups and people alike.”

Another new event for 202, is dog lure coursing. Similar to a steeple chase, Williams explains, dogs will chase a mechanical lure while being timed on their speed.

Photo Row, which debuted last year, is a series of themed selfie stations. Backgrounds, props and costumes are provided. This year’s picture themes are the “Enchanted Furrest,” “Super Sidekicks” and “Doggone Fishing”.

Returning to Fido Fest is a dog fashion show and the “best trick” contest with prizes for the winners.

There will be a two-fenced off-leash area filled with balls and toys where dogs can run and play.

“We are excited to be the co-sponsor for Fido Fest again this year! It would not be March in Williamsburg without seeing the Jamestown Beach Event park filled with families and their dogs enjoying games, arts and crafts, food, contests, and community vendors,” said Jennifer Lafountain, Marketing & Community Engagement Manager at Heritage Humane Society.

Food and merchandise will be available for purchase.

Entrance to Fido Fest is $5 per vehicle payable only in cash or check.
