The ladies golf associations of the Ford’s Colony Country Club has raised $9,000 for the Susan G. Komen Tidewater affiliate this year through its 19th annual golf tournament fundraiser.
The fundraiser, this year called “Wings of Hope,” brought 90 women to the green Oct. 6 to play a “fun” 9-hole tournament, wrote Linda Baker, the tournament’s publicity chair, in an email to WYDaily.
Association members also raised money by selling raffle tickets during a “Think Pink Night” at the country club in September, Baker wrote. A 50/50 raffle drawing was held during the golf tournament fundraiser.
Since the fundraiser was first organized in 1997, the ladies golf associations have raised $200,000 for the Tidewater affiliate.
Baker wrote that holding the fundraiser is important to the associations because many members are breast cancer survivors.
“We’ve been raising funds since 1997, and are grateful for the continuing support of businesses, Ford’s Colony Country Club, donors and participants,” Baker wrote. “We hope to win this race for the cure!”
