Furry Friends Feature: The Heritage Humane Society’s ‘Neuter Nuts’ Go Nuts for Good Causes

Get ready to snack and support! The Heritage Humane Society is delighted to announce the return of its beloved Neuter Nuts line and the debut of two brand-new mixes at the upcoming annual Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 23 in picturesque Downtown Williamsburg. Proceeds for these snacks-for-a-cause go towards the shelter’s spay and neuter fund to help humanely control the area’s pet population while providing a better quality of life for those cats and dogs.

A nutty lineup for a great cause

Thanks to a playful collaboration with Virginia Diner, these special edition tins of Neuter Nuts, Virginia gourmet salted peanuts, are a top seller at The Heritage Humane Society’s ReTAIL Store. Neuter Nuts are more than a snack — they’re a crunchy solution to keeping the pet population in check and supporting animal welfare across Greater Williamsburg.

This year’s selection brings back fan favorites and adds exciting newcomers:

  • Neuter Nuts. Classic salted Virginia peanuts ($18, 18 ounces).
  • Double-Dipped Neuter Nuts. Chocolatey, double-dipped peanuts ($14, 10 ounces).
  • Foster Fun Mix. A tasty trio of sea salt and pepper peanuts, honey-roasted peanuts, and chocolate gems ($12, 10 ounces).
  • NEW! Syrup’s Snack Mix. A blend of cornsticks, pretzels, crackers, and honey-roasted nuts ($12, 6 ounces).
  • NEW! Puppy Chow. Vanilla pretzels, oat and graham cereals, and almonds ($12, 6.4 ounces).

Since their introduction at the 2022 Holiday Bazaar, the Neuter Nuts have been a hit, raising a whopping $15,376 to support vital programs for pets in need at Greater Williamsburg’s largest animal shelter. Every purchase makes a difference, with 50% of proceeds going to The Heritage Humane Society funds including spay/neuter services, foster care and care for homeless pets.

Syrup’s story: from stray to star

The debuting Syrup’s Snack Mix honors a special alum of The Heritage Humane Society, Syrup, a blind cat who overcame incredible odds. After being rescued in May with her kittens, Syrup underwent surgery to remove her severely damaged eyes. Her loving foster mom recalls, “Despite being blind, Syrup navigates our house with confidence and charms everyone she meets.” Adopted in October, Syrup’s resilience inspired the creation of this sweet new mix.
