RICHMOND — The Virginia Capital Trail Foundation recently awarded $21,000 in grants to 13 nonprofit partners across Central Virginia through the Capital Trail Outdoor Equity Fund.
Since its establishment in 2021, the foundation said the fund has invested more than $116,000 to help local organizations expand access to outdoor recreation along the Virginia Capital Trail.
According to the foundation, this year’s recipients represent a diverse mix of organizations working to make outdoor recreation more accessible for everyone in the community. Funded projects cover a wide range of activities, including running, biking, fishing, backpacking, hiking and adaptive equipment.
The 2026 grant recipients are: Beyond Boundaries, Bike Walk Williamsburg, Black Girls RUN! Foundation, Blue Sky Fund, Boys & Girls Club of Metro Richmond, Charles City Parks and Recreation, Foundation for Art and Health, Girls in Gear, Greater Richmond Fit4Kids, Groundwork RVA, L.O.C.A.L. Adventures, Richmond Urban Collective and Rising Up Now.
“We’re excited to support our largest group of grantees yet, funding a wide range of projects that reflect the heart of what this fund is all about: providing the tools, resources, and programs that make the outdoors welcoming and accessible to everyone,” said Cat Anthony, executive director of the VCTF. “We’re incredibly grateful to our sponsors, Dominion Energy and Bon Secours, and to our trail community for helping more people experience the benefits of outdoor recreation.”
Grant recipients will be recognized at a celebration on Nov. 13 at the Varina Library. Communities served include the City of Richmond, Henrico County’s East End, Charles City County, James City County and the City of Williamsburg.
