Mark Your Calendars for Live Well Expo 2025

The annual Live Well Expo will be held Thursday, Nov. 6, from 9-11:30 a.m. at the James City County Recreation Center.

Attendees can learn about senior services available in the community, including nutrition, home health care, social and recreational services and more. Free preventive health screenings, vaccinations (with insurance card), health talks and medication checks (bring medications) by Williamsburg Drug Co. will be available, as well as raffle prizes and entertainment.

JCC BOS Vice Chair John McGlennon to Host Town Hall Meeting

James City County residents are invited to attend a town hall meeting hosted by Board of Supervisors Vice Chair and Roberts District representative John McGlennon on Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. in Building F of the James City County Government Center.

Discussion topics will include curbside recycling, the proposed James City County Government Center and the Greater Williamsburg Sports and Events Center, followed by Q&A.

Mark Your Calendars for Boo Bash at the Beach Oct. 11

James City County announced Boo Bash at the Beach will be held on Saturday, Oct. 11 from 1-4 p.m. at Jamestown Beach Event Park.

Boo Bash is a family-friendly Halloween event featuring hands-on activities, pumpkin carving and decorating, music, games, food for purchase and more. All ages are welcome; children must be accompanied by an adult.

Trick-or-Treating will also be held onsite for ages 12 and younger. Costumes are welcome.  Admission is free, however, parking is $5/car, payable by cash or check only. Pumpkin decorating is $5 per pumpkin. Pumpkins are available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. For more information, call 757-259-5353. Tommy’s Express Car Wash Breaks Ground in Yorktown

National car wash franchise Tommy’s Express announced it has has broken ground on its first location in Yorktown. Located at 6440 George Washinton Memorial Highway, near Shorty’s Diner.

This location is expected to open to the public in mid-2026.

A dual belt conveyor is capable of handling a wide variety of vehicles. Service includes soft cloth brushes, tire shine, hot wax, and a powerful underbody flush, with total wash times from entry to exit averaging just 3 minutes. Guests will also have access to self-serve interior vacuum stations and mat washers on-site, according to the announcement.

Guests can use a mobile app to purchase and manage monthly Unlimited Club Memberships.

VDOT Names New Hampton Roads District Engineer

The Virginia Department of Transportation recently named Michael Davis, P.E., as its new Hampton Roads District Engineer, effective Sept. 25.

Davis brings more than 36 years of experience in the transportation industry, and has spent nearly 30 years of his career with VDOT. As District Engineer, Davis will lead the District’s 860 VDOT employees in the planning, design, construction, maintenance and operations of the Hampton Roads transportation network, which includes nearly 10,000 lane miles, five major bridges, five tunnels and Virginia’s only state-run, 24-hour ferry system.

The District currently administers and oversees more than $5.5 billion in active construction projects. Of the District’s more than 40 active VDOT construction projects, Hampton Roads is currently delivering five major interstate projects, including multiple segments of the Hampton Roads Express Lanes network, which will create a continuous 45-mile system of Express Lanes on I-64 from Newport News to Chesapeake, it said.

He succeeds Christopher Hall, P.E., retiring after eight years leading the Hampton Roads District.

Hooters Restaurant Building Sells as Investment in Williamsburg

Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer recently announced the sale of 112 Bypass Road in Williamsburg.

Shah Investments LLC purchased the 4,600 square foot Hooters restaurant property from AHK of Williamsburg LLC for $1,375,000 as an investment.

Chris Rouzie and Matt Lafler of Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer handled the sale negotiations on behalf of the seller.
