YORKTOWN — On Aug. 27, Del. Chad Green presented the Williamsburg Yorktown ReStore team with a Joint Resolution recognizing the impact the location has had on the community in its first year of operation.

Green was joined by Sen. Danny Diggs for the presentation of Virginia General Assembly House Joint Resolution No. 107 to Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg Yorktown. The resolution, passed by the House of Delegates and concurred by the Senate during the 2024 General Assembly session, formally commends and expresses admiration for the Yorktown ReStore’s mission.

“We are honored to have Del. Chad Green, Sen. Danny Diggs and the Virginia General Assembly recognize the Yorktown ReStore for its dedication to improving our community,” said Janet V. Green, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg. “The store not only provides an affordable shopping option for residents, but it also supports Habitat for Humanity’s vital mission to build affordable homes and hope for families right here in our local community. The impact of this ReStore has been felt already and will be felt for years to come.”

The Yorktown ReStore officially celebrated its grand opening on May 6, 2023. Habitat for Humanity’s locations in Newport News and Williamsburg both rank among the top ReStores in the nation, the organization noted.

Habitat for Humanity ReStores are nonprofit home improvement stores and donation centers that sell new and gently-used furniture, appliances, home accessories, building materials and more. The goal is to generate enough profit to build more Habitat homes for sale to low- and moderate-income families, as well as to promote recycling, the organization said. All of the profits from the ReStores are used to build and sell affordable housing.

“The accomplishments of the Yorktown ReStore are a testament to the generosity of our donors, the hard work of our staff and the dedication of our volunteers,” said Gary McFadden, Yorktown ReStore Manager. “We are grateful to the General Assembly for this recognition and look forward to continuing our work to make Yorktown an even better place to live, work and raise a family.”
