WILLIAMSBURG — Gamers in the area looking for an FLGS, or Friendly Local Game Store, have a new option on Poplar Creek Lane, where Tap ‘N Roll, a new card and tabletop game store, opened its doors Dec. 1.

The goal for owner Jeremy Bass, a military veteran in the process of retiring, is to make gaming and the community as accessible as possible for anyone who wants to get started.

The store stocks a wide variety of card games, from Magic: The Gathering to Pokemon Trading Card Game (TCG) to more lesser-known card games. Resource books and adventures are available for Dungeons & Dragons and Pathfinder fans, as well as various gaming accessories like dice and card sleeves.

There are also board games, Legos, and plushies for people looking for gifts or something to play as a family.

Because Tap ‘N Roll is in the 30-day waiting period to obtain a liquor license from Virginia ABC, the store will not be hosting any Pokemon-related events (a requirement of Pokemon events is that there is no consumption of alcohol in the play space). However, there are nights dedicated to Magic: the Gathering Commander gameplay. There are also events that will be offered for both Magic: the Gathering and the newer TCG Flesh and Blood.

On the Tabletop game front, Tap ‘N Roll currently hosts an Adventure Night for Dungeons & Dragons on Tuesday nights. There is no cost to join in and play.

“Unlike your traditional places that might charge you a seat fee or whatever, we’re just doing it for free to get people out to play as a group,” explained Bass,  who operates the store with the support of his family. “If it turns into a paid program later on for more of an advanced system, so be it, but that’s not our intent. Our intent is to grow the community and have people who like and enjoy playing RPGs [Role Playing Games] to come out and enjoy it in a place where it is welcomed.”

The store is located on Poplar Creek Lane. The store is open from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday through Thursday, Friday from 4-10 p.m., Saturday 1-10 p.m., Sunday 1-8 p.m., and then closed on Mondays. For more information about upcoming events or products, please visit the Tap ‘N Roll website or Facebook page.
