WILLIAMSBURG — Bellissimo Pizza Café in Williamsburg is closing but only for this week.

Bellissimo Pizza Café, located at 6614 Mooretown Road, issued the following statement to its Facebook page:

“So before rumors start flying in Williamsburg… I’m down to just myself once again so I’m not going to open today or the rest of the week, most likely. I’m working on getting a crew in here, and if that takes longer than I’d like, then I’ll open by myself and see what happens. But I’m not closing. Ain’t gonna happen as long as I want to do this… and I want to do this. So hang tight. I know it’s not what anyone wants, but it’s a reality we have to deal with these days.”

The beloved pizza shop was opened in 2007 by Peter Micali and his father, also named Peter. The restaurant is known for its authentic New York-style pizza. Peter Micali told WYDaily in an Oct. 2021 interview that he is up at 4 a.m. each day to make pizza dough and can turn out up to 200 pizzas by himself.

When the elder Micali passed away last August, it was initially uncertain what would become of Bellissimo Pizza Café. However, Peter decided to keep the restaurant open in honor of the hard work ethic that his father taught him.

The restaurant industry is overall struggling to hire and retain employees. A September 2021 survey of small businesses from Alignable, a network dedicated to small businesses, states that 94 percent of respondents said that they were finding it difficult to hire the right employees.

Those interested in applying for a position with Bellissimo Pizza Café are encouraged to visit the restaurant’s Facebook page for job listings.
