For the second year in a row, FoodaTude … Food with Attitude has taken home an award for excellence.
FoodaTude, owned by chef Jim Kennedy, took home the Coastal Virginia Magazine’s Readers’ Choice Best Food Truck Gold on the Peninsula Award.
Kennedy and his food truck took home the silver award for the peninsula in 2017, and moved up into the top spot in 2018.
“We like that position,” Kennedy said. “Next year we got to go for the hat trick.”
FoodaTude and the other “best of” winners will be featured in the July issue of Coastal Virginia Magazine, said Brenda Whitlow, the magazine’s account executive for the Peninsula.
Additionally, the FoodaTude team will be invited to a party honoring the winners July 26 at the Decker Half Moone Center in downtown Norfolk. Kennedy will also have the FoodaTude name on the Coastal Virginia website for a year for free, and will get a weatherproof banner and a framed award to put on his truck.
“It helped us out a lot last year,” Kennedy said of the award. “We got coverage, and of course Coastal Virginia published in their magazine and the word of it spread.”
The awards are given to whichever nominated business receives the most votes, Whitlow said. Businesses are nominated by citizens, who can only vote once per day per award. Any business can be nominated and anyone can vote.
“To win at any level is outstanding. People who win the award are typically very pleased,” Whitlow said. “They like the fact that you don’t have to pay [or advertise] to be a part of it. It’s very fair.”
Kennedy said he was indeed very pleased, and added his FoodaTude truck can be most often seen at Virginia Beer Co., Alewerks, Lumber Liquidators, and school events and festivals.
“FoodaTude is No. 1 for a reason,” he said. “We’re thrilled to win it again, and it shows hard work and dedication to our craft.”
