Thrifty shoppers in Williamsburg, take note.
Dollar General announced in a news release Monday that a new store will be hosting its grand opening in Norge Saturday.
The discount retailer’s new location opened Nov. 10 and is located at 7147 Richmond Rd., next to the Williamsburg Village at Norge neighborhood.
“Dollar General is committed to delivering a pleasant shopping experience that includes a convenient location, a wide assortment of merchandise and great prices on quality products,” Dan Nieser, Dollar General’s senior vice president of real estate and store development said in the release. “We hope our Williamsburg customers will continue to enjoy shopping at Dollar General’s new location.”
The grand opening will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday. Free prizes and special deals will be available for shoppers, and the first 50 customers Saturday will receive a $10 gift card to Dollar General stores. The first 200 shoppers will receive tote bags with free product samples.
The new store will have a “fresh layout,” with coolers located near the front, seasonal produce in the center, and departments with visible signs, according to the release.
The new Dollar General replaces another Dollar General store that had been located at 6502 Richmond Rd., less than two miles away. The older store had been in operation since June 2001, according to Dollar General spokesperson Angela Petkovic.
Dollar General’s decision to relocate was based on the company’s “continual evaluation on how we can best meet our customers’ needs,” Petkovic said; the new location will offer roughly 30 percent more square feet and an expanded selection of items.
Dollar General operates more than 12,500 stores across the United States, including one in the James-York Plaza on Merrimac Trail, one in Grove and another in Newport News.
