An outdoor pizza restaurant is coming to downtown Williamsburg, thanks to a $150,000 economic development grant to the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.
Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers will open in the spring of 2018 at the Henry Street Shops at 110 South Henry Street, according to a release from the City of Williamsburg.
The 3,800-square-foot Merchants Square restaurant will feature 1,000 square feet of patio area and offer a menu including gourmet pizza, calzones, salads, and craft beers, the release stated.
“I am extremely excited to have Mellow Mushroom in the City,” Vice-Mayor Scott Foster said in the release. “It appeals to a broad cross-section of our community and provides yet another reason to spend time in our great downtown.”
The venture comes as a $150,000 performance-based incentive grant from the city council and the Economic Development Authority.
According to the release, Colonial Williamsburg will receive the grant in amounts equal to a percentage of the local sales and meals tax paid by Mellow Mushroom.
“The EDA is thrilled to have such an energetic and engaging company locate in our vibrant downtown business community,” EDA Chair Adam Steely said in the release. “Mellow Mushroom has proven eminently successful at engaging the faculty, students and staff in college towns all over the Southeast and we are confident they will do the same here.”
Each Mellow Mushroom is locally owned and operated and provides a “unique feel focused around great customer service and high-quality food,” the release stated.
