YORK COUNTY— Foodies in York County have something to look forward to in 2025 as three new restaurants are set to open in the new year.
Virginia Beer Company
Virginia Beer Company will open its second location in York County. The business will take over the Beale’s site. The new brewpub will include craft beers and a full range of locally-inspired food offerings. According to the county, the location will serve as a gathering space for the community, with a family-friendly menu and an indoor/outdoor flow.
The Virginia Beer Company has been hard at work finalizing the design and branding elements for their new location on the Route 17 corridor in southern York County.
“Owners Chris Smith and Robby Willey have shared their vision which includes utilizing locally sourced ingredients and drawing inspiration from the region’s rich culture and history to create a unique dining and beverage experience for York County residents and visitors. Once the graphic and interior design phases are complete, construction on the new location will move forward quickly,” Board of Supervisors Chairman Stephen Roane said.
VBC is targeting a spring 2025 opening.

Shorty’s Diner
Shorty’s Diner will open its fourth location in York County at the old Bay Haven Grille location in the Shops at Yorktown Shopping Center plaza. Rumors spread like wildfire on social media and confirmation of the new restaurant came on Oct. 28.
“None of this would have been possible without the vision of our founder and my dad -Shorty himself Gil Short- he had a vision all those years ago to bring a classic family ran diner to Hampton Roads. We are so excited about this new location,” Tony Short, Shorty’s Diner owner, stated on Facebook.
This new spot will mark Shorty’s fourth location, adding to one in Upper York County and two in the Greater Richmond area. Fans can look forward to the same beloved breakfast and lunch options that have made Shorty’s Diner a local favorite.
More information on an opening date will be announced soon on the Shorty’s Diner website.
QDaddy’s Pitmaster BBQ
QDaddy’s Pitmaster BBQ will open at the site of the old Pop’s Drive In location.
The crew recently completed demolition work thanks to a partial grant from the York County Economic Development Authority. They will now begin pouring concrete footers and begin major construction of the new restaurant.
“When the former Pop’s Drive In went on the market back in April, we purchased the building quickly without having any time to strategize on how to make the building fit our concept. Since closing the deal, we have spent the last several months working carefully with our architect, engineer, builder and York County officials to develop a plan to revitalize the property. We will not raze the old Pop’s but rather incorporate the existing structure into the new design updates. QDaddy’s YKTN will be a family-friendly, quick-service concept offering dine-in, take-out, mobile ordering and catering delivery,” QDaddy’s said in a Facebook post.
QDaddy’s is a family-owned pitmaster barbecue restaurant that specializes in southern style barbecue. The new Yorktown location will be the company’s third location in the Hampton Roads area.
With construction beginning soon, QDaddy’s will post updates to its Facebook page when an opening date is announced.
