JAMES CITY COUNTY — Sometimes island vibes beats colonial vibes.
YAAD Vibes Cuisine has just the dishes to cultivate a dreamy paradise feeling for your taste buds.
“We source all our spices from Jamaica,” said co-owner Jazzel Cohen. “We really work to bring the authenticity to Williamsburg with our food.”
Cohen and her husband, Cardel, are the owners of YAAD Vibes Cuisine. They opened their doors six weeks ago, offering melt-in-your-mouth recipes straight out of Jamaica.
“When people said Yaad, they’re talking about Jamaica,” Cohen said. “If a person says, ‘Oh, I’m going to Yaad,’ it means they’re going to Jamaica or home.”
Cohen moved to the United States back in 2011. Her husband came stateside about six year ago. They met at a Jamaican party and will celebrate their fifth anniversary on Monday.

Cohen said that they have both been cooking classic Jamaican dishes since they were young. “When you live in Jamaica, you live and breathe everything about it, especially the food,” Cohen said.
Popular menu items include Rasta Pasta, Jerk Chicken, and Oxtail. “Some places have oxtail that’s really hard, but ours falls right off the bone,” Cohen said.
And from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday, Yaad Vibes Cuisine offers $6 lunch specials which include Stew, Curry, or Jerk Chicken with two sides and a can soda.
Yaad Vibes Cuisine is located at 5242 Olde Towne Rd in the Olde Towne Marketplace. To order take-out, call 757-645-1240. Visit their Instagram page at Yaad_vibes_cuisine.
