Police arrested one woman, gave a summons to another in an attempt to shoplift as much as $400 in children’s clothes from Kohl’s Department Store, each trying to roll the goods out in two baby strollers.

Monica F. Brown, 20, was taken into custody last Thursday and charged with grand larceny, said Lt. Dennis Ivey, York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office. A second woman believe to have been involved, but only accused of having a lesser amount of clothing in her stroller, was given a summons.

On April 13, police responded to a report from the loss prevention officer at the Kohl’s at 100 Gristmill Plaza, in the Marquis off Route 199. The officer told police he observed two woman leaving the Kohl’s, pushing baby strollers.

Upon investigation, police believe Brown had over $300 in children’s clothing hidden in the stroller. The other woman accused had roughly $94 in clothing hidden in her stroller. She was given a summons and released, Ivey said.

Brown was transported to the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.
