A York County Schools Division student is helping to bring to life an icon from the American Colonial period:  Pocahontas.

Kaiah Seraydarian, a sixth grader, from  Queens Lake Middle School is scheduled to appear as the famous Native American princess during the Smithsonian Channel episode “Pocahontas: Beyond the Myth,” which airs again this weekend, Friday at 10 p.m. and Sunday, April 2 at noon.

The middle schooler premiered on the channel earlier this week, according to a York County Schools Division Facebook Post.

The episode will look beyond the fiction and romanticized story of Pocahontas and John Smith to examine her real life story, a tale of kidnapping, conflict, starvation, ocean journeys, and the future of an entire civilization, according to the Smithsonian Channel website.

A link to the episode and additional information may be found at the Smithsonian Channel.
