Police investigating two armed robberies at Williamsburg hotels in one week

Police are searching for a man they say robbed a woman at gunpoint Thursday night in a hotel located on the 500 block of York Street in Williamsburg.

According to Maj. Greg Riley of the Williamsburg Police Department, deputies responded to the hotel around 10:25 p.m. Thursday after receiving reports of a robbery.

Upon arrival, the officers spoke to the victim who told police she was waiting for a friend to stop by. When the friend arrived, he knocked on the room door.

When the victim opened the door, the suspect, who was described as a black male, displayed a handgun and demanded money, Riley said.

The victim gave the suspect an undetermined amount of cash and he fled the area in an unknown direction.

Investigators believe Thursday’s incident is related to a similar armed robbery that occurted on Tuesday at another Williamsburg hotel.

In that incident, a woman reported to police that she was waiting for a friend in a motel room in the 3000 block of Richmond Road around 10:10 p.m. when a person knocked on her door, Riley said.

The woman said a man armed with a handgun forced his way inside her room when she opened the door and demanded money. She gave the man an undetermined amount of cash, and he fled in an unknown direction, according to police.

The suspect in Tuesday’s robbery was described as a black man who was wearing dark clothing at the time of the incident.

At this time both, incidents are under investigation, Riley said.
