As of 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, several media outlets announced Hillary Clinton the winner of Virginia’s 13 Electoral College votes in the 2016 presidential election.
With nearly 96 percent of Virginia’s polls reporting, the Democratic presidential candidate took the lead with 1.67 million votes – about 1.62 percent more than Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s 1.6 million, according to the Virginia Department of Elections.
But in the Historic Triangle, Donald Trump won the election in both James City and York counties, picking up 17,111 votes (or 55.72 percent) in York and 21,251 votes (or 49.38 percent) in James City, according to VDOE.
In the City of Williamsburg, Clinton secured her only victory in the Historic Triangle, winning 5,199 votes (or 68.28 percent) to Trump’s 1,921 votes (or 25.23 percent).
Clinton shared her ticket with Virginia’s Democratic Senator Tim Kaine. Kaine was elected to the Senate in 2012, serving on the armed services, budget, foreign relations and aging committees, according to his website.
