Local Pokemon Go enthusiasts now have a financial incentive to go out and “catch ‘em all.”
Two attractions on Richmond Road, Catfish Cove Mini Golf and Ripley’s Believe It or Not, are participating in an international competition to catch the rarest Pokemon in Pokemon Go, a popular new app that allows players to catch virtual characters in the physical world.
According to a news release, the competition will offer a grand prize of $5,000 for the person who catches the rarest Pokemon character, as well as a $100 cash prize to one random winner each day during the contest, which runs from now until July 24.
The rarest character will be determined according to an unofficial ranking index posted on the website Imgur.com.
To enter, take a screenshot of a Pokemon caught at a Ripley’s attraction. The screenshot must be taken in Augmented Reality (AR) mode and must include a recognizable element of the location. Then upload the photo to Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #RipleysGo. Players can check the leaderboard on the contest page each day to see where they rank.
Local players have to purchase tickets to the mini golf or Ripley’s attraction to participate in the contest. Click here for complete contest rules.
