Catching up with Kellam’s Grieser, Kempsville’s Murphy, others on their college seasons

Baseball

Sean Grieser (Kellam), Virginia Wesleyan: The 6-foot-4 senior lefty has a team-high three wins in six starts and has posted a team-leading 32 strikeouts in 34 innings as a leader in the Marlins’ rotation.

Softball

Ki Jenkins (Bayside), Randolph University: Jenkins has made an immediate impact as a freshman. In 36 starts in the outfield, she has generated 26 runs, third most on the team, and 28 hits — fifth most — in 108 at-bats.

Emily Murphy (Kempsville), Longwood University: Murphy has been the Lancers most productive offensive weapon in 47 starts. The senior shortstop leads the team in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging, hits, home runs, RBIs and total bases.

Mary Shipp (First Colonial), Virginia Wesleyan: The senior righty leads the team with 19 wins (15 complete games) while sporting a 1.28 ERA with 72 strikeouts in 131 innings for the Marlins.

Blake Henderson (Ocean Lakes), Virginia Wesleyan: In 37 starts at right field, the 5-foot-5 junior is second on the team in slugging percentage (.541) and RBIs (34), and third in hits (42) and total bases (59).
