Captain Mayhem is taking out his ship Friday in an all-new sunset cruise that kicks off the second annual Pirates Invade Yorktown event.
Hosted at Riverwalk Landing, many of the events are being held Saturday and Sunday. Children can enroll in Captain Mayhem’s School of Privacy to learn how to set sails, steer the schooner and fire the cannon. Attendees can participate in a pirate raid, see a pirate trial and learn seafaring tunes.
Vendors will also be on Riverwalk Landing selling 18th-century pirate gear and clothing and children’s games and toys. Food and drink will also be offered.
In addition to Captain Mayhem’s Schooner Soiree — which will feature a cash bar, shanty singers and heavy hors d’oeuvres — on Friday night, the Schooner Alliance will be setting sail at 2 and 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, with the 2 p.m. cruise featuring Lady Pirates who entertain the guests aboard the schooner.
The event is co-sponsored by the Riverwalk Landing Business Association, York County Arts Commission, York County, the Watermen’s Museum and the 1781 Foundation.
Those dressed as a pirate will get $5 off many of the events including the cruises and the piracy school.
Free parking is available at the Riverwalk Landing parking terrace, York Hall, and other designated public parking lots throughout town. Guests are encouraged to utilize the free Yorktown Trolley, which operates daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
