As the weather begins to warm up, head outside to bask in nature on a hike or partake in wine and foods from different cultures this weekend. Those activities and more can be found in our weekly events list below.

Take In The Arts
Warhill High School’s Lions Roar Theatre Department will perform “Shrek the Musical,” which is based on the award-winning DreamWorks animation film. Performances will be held in the Warhill High School auditorium 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday.
The Williamsburg Botanical Garden at Freedom Park is hosting a workshop on plein air painting, which is French for “in the open air.” Artists of all skill levels are invited to bring drawing equipment and learn about botany from artist Linda Miller at 10 a.m. Saturday. Those in attendance are encouraged to take their gear and head to the garden to paint and sketch. The program is free of charge, however donations to the Williamsburg Botanical Garden will be accepted.
Get In Tune With Nature
Learn more about the osprey during a guided hike along the Taskinas Creek and the York River at 10 a.m. Saturday. Starting at York River State Park, the hike will last for roughly 1.5 miles and will feature several elevation changes. Bring a camera and binoculars to get an up-close look at the birds of prey. There is a $4 parking fee per vehicle for those who attend.
The Virginia Living Museum is hosting an ongoing exhibit, Frogs: A Chorus of Colors, that will allow museum patrons to get a first-hand view at more than 70 live frogs from across the globe. Starting at 9 a.m., the exhibit will feature interactive games and displays will help visitors of all ages have fun while learning more about the biology and natural history of frogs. Museum admission is $17 for adults and $13 for children 3 to 12 years old.
Curious about what types of weeds are going to sprout up this spring? Join Helen Hamilton for a a walk through Freedom Park to learn about various types of helpful and harmful weeds. The What is that Weed walk is free and will begin at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
Wine and Dine
On Saturday, Williamsburg Pottery will be hosting a celebration of Mediterranean food and wine. The event, which is free to attend, will feature sampling of Mediterranean wines and dishes. Tastings will start at noon and run until 4 p.m.
Stay Informed
William & Mary is holding its third annual TEDx event at 11 a.m. Sunday in the Sadler Center. Two William & Mary professors will be among others speaking at this year’s event, which centers around a theme of “Beyond.” Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online or at the door.
Stay up to date on the latest design trends in remodeling, decorating and landscaping during the Williamsburg Home Show. Held at William & Mary Hall, the event will run 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $10 for adults at the gate and $5 online. Anyone 18 and under gets in free.
Sports and Athletics
The William & Mary women’s tennis team will go head-to-head against Brown at 11 a.m. Sunday. The matches will take place at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center. Entry is free.
Fresh Foods
The Williamsburg Farmers Market, located on Duke of Gloucester Street, will feature vendors selling fish, artisan chocolate, cheese, meats, honey, baked goods and more with live music by Audio Portrait from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Once you’ve done your shopping in the city, head up the road to the Toano Farmers Market, held from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at the pavilion near the James City-Bruton Volunteer Fire Deaprtment located at 3135 Forge Road. The market features Bob’s Sausage Company, Rainbow Eggs, Heidi’s Home Grown and more.
Fun For Kids
Walsingham Academy is holding its fifth annual Easter Egg Hunt on the Green at 1 p.m. Sunday. The event will feature face painting, juggling, a public Eastern egg hunt for children 7 and under and an appearance from the Easter Bunny. The event is free and open to the public.
For a Good Cause
The Parrotheads of the Phininsula is hosting its annual indoor cornhole tournament to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. The tournament begins at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Ramada Inn located at 500 Merimac Trail. Registration for the tournament starts at 1:30 p.m. with the competition starting at 3 p.m. Stick around after the tournament for food, drinks, raffles and live music from The Tiki Bar Band.
Hampton Roads Harley Davidson is teaming up with the American Red Cross for the 20th annual Harley Davidson blood drive. Anyone who donates blood will receive a limited edition blood drive T-shirt and a $20 gift card to Hampton Roads Harley Davidson. The blood drive will be held 9 a.m. Saturday at Hampton Roads Harley Davidson located at 6450 George Washington Memorial Highway.
