A local organization is bringing the spirit of the Big Easy to the Historic Triangle next week for its annual fundraiser.

The Williamsburg Choral Guild is putting on its annual Mardi Gras Party & Auction on Sunday.

Drawing upon New Orleans’s extensive jazz tradition, the Mardi Gras-themed event will feature the musical stylings of Harris Simon, who is an expert at piano and harmonica performance and director of the College of William & Mary’s jazz combo.

Items available during the silent and live auction events include tickets to sporting events and musical performances, vouchers for live entertainment and gift certificates to area restaurants. A preview of auction items is available online.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Williamsburg Choral Guild.

The Williamsburg Choral Guild was founded in 1975, and is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. The group brings together local singers with different levels of experience into one large ensemble.

The group’s next performance will feature the music of Felix Mendelssohn, along with other pieces, and is scheduled for March 8 at Williamsburg Presbyterian Church.

The party and auction are scheduled to run from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Williamsburg Hellenic Center at 4900 Mooretown Road.

Tickets are $45 in advance and $55 at the door. Tickets are available for purchase online. Donations to the group can also be made electronically.
