For architecture that has withstood the test of time, a museum at the College of William & Mary was recognized by the Virginia Society of the American Institute of Architects.

The Muscarelle Museum of Art was among a group of award recipients throughout the state for the 2014 Honors, given by the professional association that dates back 100 years.

The museum, which was designed by Carlton Abbott, received the society’s Test of Time award at a gala in November.

The award focuses on the building’s colorful wall, which in addition to being an evolving work of art – the bright panels use tubes filled with colored water, which are changed several times a year – functions as a solar energy collection system.
