With the end of summer on the horizon, York County plans to keep the music alive with the 10th year of its annual fall concert series.
The annual Rhythms on the Riverwalk series returns to Riverwalk Landing in historic Yorktown again this year. Free and open to the public, the weekly concerts from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. will be on the performance stage overlooking the York River.
With a focus on local jazz and big band tunes, the lineup also includes country music.
The schedule for Rhythms on the Riverwalk:
- Sept. 5: Glen Boswick and the Sounds of Swing Orchestra, a full-size swing dance orchestra – specializing in the big band sound of the 1940s – that has been playing in Hampton Roads since 1977
- Sept. 12: Super Jazz Band featuring Conni Mann, a big band with more than 25 years of experience in the Tidewater region and performing a range from Latin to swing
- Sept. 19: Williamsburg Classic Swing Orchestra, a 16-piece authentic big band started in the mid-1990s by local musicians and educators, playing many original arrangements of classic swing music
- Sept. 26: The Kevin Mac Experience, a country singer and guitar player who is also a King George County native
- Oct. 3: Boot Rooster, a five-member country band from Chesapeake playing a mix of favorite and original songs
Food will be available for purchase, and guests are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs for concert seating.
